Reflecting (on) Ban Tateng

Mirror, LED, Wooden Box, Width: 50cm, Height: 40cm, Depth: 11,5cm

The mirror is laser engraved from the backside, allowing light to pass through in the areas where the reflecting alloy is removed. This piece is part of a series that tries to show the nature of human settlements in different parts of the world. With this technique all human structures build in this area have the same weight, no building is prioritized and the overall pattern of the settlement appears. The use of a mirror wants to make clear that the view on these areas reflects not just the manmade structures but also who is looking at them. This area shows the village of Ban Tateng in the west of the Laotian Province of Xékong.
