Orthogonal Canopy, N°1

Glass, Linden leaves, Resin, LED, Wooden Box, Width: 50cm, Height: 40cm, Depth: 11,5cm

A Small-leaved Linden tree (Tilia cordata) was cut down in the city of Vienna, Austria. The leaves from the cut-down tree were collected and cut into small Quadrats. They are preserved under glass, showing the structure of the organic growth of the trees canopy, but interrupted by the quadratic structure of the piece. This serves also as a conceptual critique of the way in which human structures box in an reduces the possibilities of organic growth to take place. It also wants to preserve a small representation of the once-mighty canopy of the tree.
